Yamaha YZF R7 - Unveiled globally, a worthy replacement to the R6 indeed!!

Yamaha has taken the wraps off the well thought, designed and a worthy replacement, if not a successor to the legendary R6. A perfect fit at the mid range for the supersport category between the R3 and R1.

Design and Ergonomics:

Aesthetically the bike carries the genes of the mighty R1, as is the case with other offerings like the R3 and R15 included. To keep the design unique but remenescent to the R6 the air intake in between the headlights are kept same, only that a LED projector headlight now sits comfortably at the center of it. The front fairing rises from the eyebrow LED DRLs and extend way up. The side fairings sport huge openings, clearly shaped to dissipate the hot air away from the legs. The rear is sharp and the protruding under belly exhaust reminds of the R6. With a low-profile fuel tank design and compact clip-on handlebar position, the ergonomics seem race ready the moment you put your eyes on the bike, that said the Yamaha personnel say that the bike is designed keeping in mind the racing gene with the comfort also taken into account.


Engine and Chassis:

The Yamaha R7 sports a 689cc, 4 stroke, Liquid cooled, DOHC inline twin cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder. With a bore of 80mm and 68.6mm stroke, giving a healthy compression ratio of 11.5:1 to excite you throughout, and all of that churning out 74.41hp of power @ 8,750rpm and 67Nm of Torque @ 6,700rpm. The engine features a 270-degree crank which produces an uneven firing order for a linear torque delivery and limited vibration. The slip and assisst clutch helps the rider for smooth transitioning of gears and an optional Quick shifter is available for better experience, but limited to upshift.


The bike sports a high strength steel frame aids the bike to have the slimmest proportions of the entire R-Series family, aiding in sporty riding with optimal handling for cornering on the track and agility bundled with optimal aerodynamics and carefully designed rider triangle offers the rider a perfect blend of racing instinct and a tourer within. The whole frame package seats the sleek engine within the fairings, with wide openings aiding the air flow. The whole frame work and fairing suspended on new inverted 41mm USD forks, adjustable for preload, rebound and compression for the front, while the rear suspension comprises a linked-type monocross shock, with adjustable preload and rebound. These are further seated on Bridgestones with 120/70ZR17 tire at the front and a 180/55ZR17 at the rear. Putting a halt to the roll are the 298mm front discs handled by Brembo and a 245mm single disc at the rear. With a seat height of 835mm the bike would be comfortable for anyone over 5'5". The overall package tips the scale at just 188Kgs (wet weight).


Electronics:

The bike is set with all LED lighting starting from the Eyebrowed LED DRLs and a center seated bi functional LED projector headlight, the front and rear signal indicators and the rear tail light. An all new LCD display that shows gear position, real time and average fuel economy, fuel level and much more, displayed in a high contrast display aiding even in sunlight.


The bike will be available in two colurs namely the Raven Black and but quite obviously the Team Yamaha Blue. The bike is due for launch in Europe and is at $8,999 in the US, which makes to 6.75lakh Indian rupees. Once launched, the bike will lock its horns with the competition like Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the aprilia RS660.
