While the world's bike leaders are at releasing the updated versions of their bikes that are Euro-5 compliant, Yamaha took a bold decision and updated the MT-09 and it is revamped inside-out.
It is a brand new iteration of the MT-09 and looks marvelous. And it's not just the looks that Yamaha had worked on, the firm made sure the bike is as new as it can get by incorporating an engine which is not just more powerful but at the same time lighter too.
The new engine is now a 890cc Three Cylinder unit (compared to the 847cc of the prior gen bike). The engine now is lighter by 1.7 Kgs thanks to the engineers who made it all possible by incorporating new pistons, con-rods, camshafts and crankcases. The engine now churns out 117HP and 93Nm of peak torque @ 7,000rpm which reaches at 1,500rpm earlier.
The frame is now a diecast Deltabox design, made out of aluminum. The subframe and the radically different swingarm have also been made out of aluminum, which again contributes to the overall weight loss on the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 which is a whole 3.8Kgs lighter than its predecessor. Suspension is handled by KYB, with fully adjustable forks at the front, while the rear shock offers preload and rebound adjustment. Brakes are by Nissin, with a radial master cylinder and dual 298mm discs at the front.
In terms of the electronics the bike gets a new 3.5" TFT Screen. A six-axis IMU that is supposedly sourced from YZF-R1 and would be in control of the rider aids such as wheelie control, ABS, slide control and traction control, the controls to which are conveniently placed on the left switch panel.
Coming to the Design part the bike is a complete makeover from the predecessor and is more aggresively shaped. The head light is also designed with a new look and placed quite high, which as per us seems a little odd in position compared to the competition and has an odd look to it.
The bike would be BS6 ready as and when it arrives to the nation. The same would be locking its horns with the Triumph Street Triple and Kawasaki Z900.
