Unveiled! the KTM 890 Adventure as 2021 Base variant

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

KTM unveiled today the KTM 890 Adventure without the initials of R and Rally and shall serve as the base variant.

After having unveiled the 890 adventure twins, the R and the limited edition Rally version, KTM unveiled the base variant of the 890 and made a triplet. While retaining a few premium features and a redesigned engine to make more power, the bike gives the reliable performance that KTM is known to provide. We could say that the 890 Adv would fit in correct slot in the mid variant for the adventure bike, which enthusiasts were looking for, to enjoy both off and on tarmac as well.

The redesigned new 889cc parallel twin engine, thanks to an extra 2mm in Bore and 3mm in stroke, now gives 105 hp of power and 100Nm of torque. The 20% extra rotating mass of the crankshaft helped improve low rev performance, all the while helping with the centralization for better traction through corners. A refined and stronger clutch has been introduced to cope with the boosted performance and the power plant is of course Euro5 compliant.

DESIGN and Ergonomics:

The bike boasts of a new 43mm WP APEX rear shock, with a new rebound damping adjuster and an additional hand adjuster for spring preload, all together putting the bike on the platform that fits it perfect for the tarmac and the trail. Updated electronic settings for ABS and traction control, make the bike even more dependable. The bike boasts of a low fender rather than the flying mud guard, a higher set windscreen, a 20 litre tank and an accessible seat height.

The front and rear brakes have been reworked on as well, Braking duties, on the other hand, are taken care of by 320 mm front and 260 mm rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. In the aftermarket parts catalog from KTM, 890 buyers can add cruise control (a switch for this is already on the handlebar), an up/down quickshifter (which should have been ideally given as standard), heated seat and grips, and a range of luggage options.

Now as per sources there are speculations that Indian market would receive the 790 Adv and there is no news whether the 890 Adv would make to Indian soil. Although the Rally edition would be landing in India in limited numbers (of-course), which is due mostly in March next year. The 890 Adv is priced at roughly 9.62 lakh in international market.
