The Triumphant Bug - 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS

Updated: May 22, 2020

Amidst the lockdown a triumphant decision was taken to finally raise the curtain off the most popular and performance oriented bike, to say the least, the 2020 Street Triple RS

All the latest incorporations in the bike is made for it to fall into the brand wagon of the Euro 5 emissions. And yes it means that the bike is BSVI compliant.

Inspite of being compliant to the norms the company has managed to keep the bike weight under check, which makes it even more drooling for the bikers. The company managed to tip the scale at a 166kg (Dry) by incorporating all new lighter components for the engine like the crank shaft, clutch and the balancer among others. Also the exhaust with the carbon fibre end cap and branding at the end looks ravishing

The bike is now lad with new cosmetic changes including fresh mirrors, handlebar clamp, fly screen side panels, seat cowl and belly pan. The most evident change being the epic bug eyed headlights changed to LED lights with DRLs laid into a browed pattern that give the bike the meanest look

The electronics for the bike has been finally tweaked and now comes with a colour TFT display that gives the details as desired. Keeping to the trend the TFT is bluetooth enabled with company's own My Triumph connectivity, which can be controlled using a new toggle switch that is now being incorporated with all triumph bikes, the Go pro controls which will operate the Go pro functions, turn by turn navigation, phone call and music functionalities. The bike now also gets ride by wire, adjustable ABS, five riding modes - Road, Rain, Sport, Track and Rider, swithcable traction control. The bike also gets the bi directional gear shifter as standard called the Triumph shift assist quickshifter

The BSVI compiant, liquid cooled, DOHC, in line 3 cylinder engine churns out a power of 123PS @ 11,750rpm, which is the same as the out going model. Although the lighter crank has helped now for the engine to produce a torque figure of 79Nm @ 9,350rpm, that is 2Nm higher than the prior version and kicks in at 1,450RPM earlier too. Additionally the bike has now 9% more mid range punch to it that will help the bike manage the traffic and the overtaking with ease.

The bike is suspended on the Showa 41mm USD big piston forks with 115mm travel at the front and fully adjustable Ohlins STX40 piggyback reservoir monoshock with 131mm travel at the rear. Dropping the anchors at front are the twin 310mm floating discs with Brembo M50 4-piston radial monobloc calipers and a single 220mm disc with Brembo single piston caliper at the rear. All of the body load is now taken by 5-spoke 17-inch cast aluminum alloy wheels with a 120/70 section at the front and a 180/55 section at the rear, with the mean grippier rubber being from the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3.

Although the bookings for the bikes are being taken, the bikes will be available for test rides post the COVID-19 lockdown. But, the most awaited news for the bike enthusiasts came to be as the most cheerful by announcing the price of the bike to be the same as the outgoing model at Rs. 11.13 lakh (Ex-showroom). The bike would be available in two colours primarily, but the options for custom colours would be provided.
