KTM Adventure 390 X Review: Uncompromised Performance at an Affordable Price

The KTM Adventure 390 X is a game-changer in the sub 400cc adventure motorcycle segment, offering exceptional value for money with an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.8 lakh. Priced at approximately Rs 65,000 less than the standard variant, the X-variant achieves this affordability by omitting some features from the base model.

What sets the KTM 390 Adventure-X apart?

The X-variant sacrifices a few components found in the standard model, such as the TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, quickshifter, traction control, and ride modes. Additionally, it ditches the Metzeler Tourance tires and instead features the MRF Mogrip Meteor tires found on the KTM 250 Adventure. But do these omissions compromise the capabilities of the KTM 390 Adventure? Surprisingly, the answer is no.

Riding Experience of the KTM 390 Adventure-X:

Apart from the aforementioned exclusions, the X-variant shares the same chassis, suspension, and engine as its standard counterpart. This translates to identical performance and ride quality between the two models. While the grip and confidence of the MRF tires may not match that of the Metzelers, they still provide decent performance on and off-road. Riders always have the option to upgrade to Metzeler tires once the MRF tires wear out.

Although the absence of traction control and cornering ABS may not bother experienced riders, these safety features prove advantageous in less-than-ideal road conditions, such as slippery or wet surfaces. Therefore, choosing between the X-variant and the standard model with electronic aids becomes a matter of personal preference and skill level. While the powerful 390 Adventure can be ridden without traction control, less experienced riders may appreciate the added safety net.

The use of a simple LCD dash might diminish some of the premium feel expected from a motorcycle priced around Rs 3 lakh. However, considering the overall price-to-performance ratio that the 390 Adventure offers, this trade-off is not a deal-breaker. In fact, the cost savings from choosing the 390 Adventure-X over the standard variant can be utilized to add accessories and crash protection.

Overall, the KTM 390 Adventure-X delivers a remarkable package at an attractive price point. Its performance and capabilities make it an appealing option for riders seeking a fast and capable adventure motorcycle without breaking the bank.
