The revolution has come in the face of the magnanimous Triumphant triple naked off the stable, the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS was launched today in India at a price tag of Rs. 16.95Lakh (ex-showroom) Pan India.
The most powerful and ruthless naked triple now boasts of the best of everything, designed and made to make the behemoth triple, wherein it has added up on the modern tech required to keep the machine on its wheels, while losing the overall weight by 10Kgs, tipping the scales at 198Kgs. Furthermore helping boost the power to weight ratio too by around 20% when compared to the outgoing model, but almost twice as much as the legendary Hooligan in it's lineage launched in 1994.
Triumph’s new engine is an 1160 cc Triple which is said to be around 7 Kgs lighter than the previous engine while producing nearly 30 more horsepower. That would be 177.5 hp at 10,750 rpm with torque of 125 Nm at 9,000 rpm and according to Triumph’s dyno charts, the torque figure of 109Nm available at 3,500 rpm onwards. The reduction in mass and increase in numbers, with the fine tuning on the intake and exhaust has helped the engine to boast of a performance that will leave one mesmerised.
A new stacked six-speed gearbox with a new slip and assist clutch, along with the reduction of number of clutch plates used has resulted in the powertrain inertia is to be lower by 12% resulting in a freer spinning, quicker performing motorcycle. The bike service intervals are set at 16,000 kms/ 1 year and a 2 year warranty is standard.
Chassis
While the new cast aluminum frame looks similar to the outgoing model, the entire package is more compact and distributes weight lower and further forward while being 17% lighter than the outgoing unit. The seat is narrower as is the 17 litre fuel tank. The footpegs have also been moved inward contributing to the narrow feel while a wider handlebar gives the rider more leverage which was much required for a bike that was wide as hell. The Speed Triple will be the only outgoing model with the RS batch and there will not be any base version as confirmed by Triumph.
The suspension is handled by the Ohlins 43mm USD NIX30 forks at front with full adjustability and the TTX36 at the rear also gives adjustability options. Putting the beast on hold are the Brembo 320mm rotors at front and a single cylinder twin piston caliper 220mm discs at the rear. And then the rotating wonders that are to keep the bike stuck on road are 17inch cast aluminum wheels with Metzeler 120/70 tyre at front and 190/55 tyre at rear.
Electronics
The bike gets a 5 inch TFT display showing all the details and bits of information required at hand including two themes, lap timer, Phone calling, Music operation, turn by turn navigation and Go pro control as standard. IMU based traction control and ABS can be controlled by five riding modes namely Rain, Road, Sport, Track and Rider. All LED lights are used over the bike with self cancellation signals. A full keyless system is now used to start the motorcycle and open the fuel tank.
Triumph has made sure that a Revolution occurs while the bike is revealed and much to the anticipation the Speed Triple has a intimidating form to mention the least. With host of features, revised leaner design and a new meaner engine the Speed Triple is surely to create ripples in the naked bike market and set a mark against the super naked bikes of the competition. The Speed Triple will be available in two colours the Sapphire black and Matt silver Ice. We hope to get a hand on the magnificent motorcycle soon and get a detailed test review.
